Monthly Miscellanea X

October has quickly come and gone, and that means it’s time for my Monthly Miscellanea wrap up post. Once again, I was typing this very last minute and way too late at night, so I’ll keep it relatively short and sweet!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! We aren’t huge Halloween people, as the pagan origins don’t jibe with our faith, but we do view it as a fun opportunity to dress the kids up and hang out with friends. So I was up late two nights ago trying to sew a belt for Arabella’s Halloween costume. She is going as Lucy of Narnia, which I love, since The Chronicles of Narnia is my favorite book series ever!

We ran some last minute errands this week to find the perfect gold tiara (thank you Claire’s, for NOT going out of business as we previously thought), a bottle for “Lucy’s” healing cordial (a travel toiletries container with a spray painted gold cap), and the perfect Narnian dagger (Goodwill for the win!). Of course, a belt for said cordial and dagger was a bit trickier, so we made a quick trip to Joann Fabric for some black minky fabric and thick twill tape. $3 and some sewing machine and hand sewing magic later, she’s got a cute little belt that coordinates with her princess dress.

Kaden decided this year that he is a bit too old for the super hero costume route he’s typically gone (really, are we ever too old for super heroes?!), so he decided to dress up as a prisoner. In his mind, I think that included some really excellent fake blood and bruising, because of course he is an unjustly-imprisoned-battered-now-escaped prisoner. Unfortunately his mama is no makeup artist, so I think the end result of the small scar on his cheek is a bit less than he desired. Sorry buddy, maybe next year.

Here is one extra picture of Arabella and a school buddy last night for “bring a friend to dance in costume night.” How cute are they?!

Music (and Movie – A Star Is Born)

We’ve been listening to the soundtrack from A Star is Born on repeat around our house for the last few weeks. The kids have their favorites (“Black Eyes” for Kaden and “I’ll Never Love Again” for Arabella) and I have mine. “Shallow,” obviously, “Always Remember Us This Way,” and “I Don’t Know What Love Is.” I also love “Before I Cry.” Ok, let’s be honest, I pretty much love the entire soundtrack. The one exception is “Hair Body Face.” Maybe it’s too similar to Bradley Cooper’s response in the movie, but seriously, WHAT is that song?!

I won’t give away any spoilers, but for those of you who have seen this movie, you know what a powerful emotional punch it packed. I purposely didn’t listen to any of the music before seeing the film, because I knew it would have more of an impact if I felt all the feels while hearing the music for the first time. And boy, was I right. Two different times during the movie, my sister and I looked at each other and said, “Wow.” Serious chills.

The language and some themes of the movie are pretty tough, but the movie was SO well done, and the acting and music were both phenomenal!

Courtside Seats

Adam and I had the opportunity to see a Timberwolves game from a courtside ON THE FLOOR vantage point, and it was definitely a bucket list item! The energy on that court is hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it (and almost been stepped on by a very large tall man). The only bummer now is that any seats after this will be a major downgrade. What can I say? I’m ruined.

A New Favorite Sweater

Last month I mentioned loving fall fashion and jokingly said I might even take a picture of myself… Well, here I am in my new favorite boucle sweater from the Universal Thread line at Target!

I probably shouldn’t specify how often I’ve worn this sweater since I bought it (seriously embarrassing), but it is just SO versatile. I’ve worn it with jeans, leggings, and you could easily throw it on with a skirt as seen in this Target photo below. I’ve worn it plain, over a tank, over a denim shirt, and over a plaid flannel. Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways! ~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning, BTW.

Speaking of fall fashion, check out this post from last week about how I live in layers to stay warm in the colder months. There might be a little sale code in that post for you to enjoy too! 😉 Because who doesn’t love a good deal?!

Well, that’s my October in a nutshell. I’m wrapping this up because it’s way past my bedtime and I have a large bowl of buffalo chicken calling my name! I’d love to hear how your month went… Anything new? Anything exciting? Leave me message in the comments below!
