The Creek Classic Eclectic Kitchen Inspiration Board

My intent while building our new home, The Creek Classic, was to take you all along on the journey and post regular updates about the progress… But I completely underestimated the amount of time building a custom home would take! Between the work that goes into that, having my kids home for the summer and trying to balance the “work” of building with the blessing of enjoying them (and walking them through a large change in their lives), and weekends at the lake, I fell way behind. So the house is done now (minus a few punch list items), we are living in it, and we LOVE it. Many people say the kitchen is the heart of the home, and our eclectic kitchen definitely has my heart. I’m going to share a bit of my kitchen inspiration today, and in the next week or so, I’ll be posting pictures of it. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen a few photos!

Our builder, Precision Homes, works with a custom cabinet company called Cabco Cabinetry, and their work is gorgeous! Seriously, if you want some gorgeous cabinetry inspiration, you have to check them out. Here is just one example of their glorious cabinetry.

I love those inset shaker style cabinets! I’ll talk a bit more about why at a later date, but that same cabinet style is actually what we chose for our home too. You know I love classic bones, and I think inset cabinetry has such a timeless, elegant look that works with so many different decorating styles.

Our eclectic kitchen went through a few different inspiration stages, but I pulled a lot of my color inspiration from the gorgeous kitchen design of Brittany of Addison’s Wonderland. Her eclectic style is so up my alley, and her blog is one of my top faves of all time.

That soft grayish blue is so gorgeous, I just couldn’t resist doing something similar, but I’ve always loved a white kitchen too, so I decided to just use the blue on our island and keep the perimeter cabinetry white. That also allows me to more easily change the color down the road if I tire of the blue. Although at this point, I can’t imagine that happening.

I knew I wanted a fabulous range hood too, but I debated quite a while on the color. Since we already had two colors at play in the cabinetry, I was concerned that adding a third into the mix might feel TOO eclectic, but after consulting with my sister-in-law/interior-design-go-to-friend, I decided to risk it. And I’m SO glad I did. Black and white are both neutral and timeless, so it doesn’t feel too wild at all.

Eclectic Kitchen Concept Board Beaded Chandelier

When I showed Adam the original eclectic kitchen concept board, he wasn’t a fan of the beaded chandelier. At all. Since he doesn’t give me much push back on some of my bolder design decisions, when he has strong opinions on something, I listen. So we hunted and found a chandelier option we BOTH loved. See, I can compromise. 😉

My initial inspiration board also included white KitchenAid appliances. I knew I wanted white, mostly because of the look, but also because I hate trying to keep stainless steel clean with kids. The less housework I have to do, the better in my book! KitchenAid appliances get great reviews, and they probably would have been a safer bet from a longevity standpoint, but once I learned about the customizable GE Cafe line, I knew I had to have them. Because seriously, how gorgeous?

So far, we absolutely love them from a functionality standpoint too!

Other elements that feature prominently in our final inspiration board are hickory floors, brass cabinet hardware, marble look quartz, and marble subway tile.

After working with Paul and Alena to work the overall kitchen design out, and with Oleg, the cabinet maker to finalize details, this is the final 3D render of our kitchen.

We knew we wanted a large, conversational island for entertaining, and since this floor plan didn’t have a logical space for a walk-in pantry like we had at our last house, The Sweetbay Sanctuary, we created a floor to ceiling pantry on the left wall. The back wall with the range hood was easily my most anticipated design decision in the entire house. I couldn’t wait to see the vision in my head come to life!
